Description
This One-Pan Sausage & Orzo Skillet is a quick, easy, and delicious meal. Enjoy a flavorful dinner with minimal cleanup.
Ingredients
- 1 pound Italian sausage, removed from casings
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, chopped
- 1.5 cups orzo pasta
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups fresh spinach, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large oven-safe skillet, brown the sausage over medium-high heat. Drain any excess grease.
- Add onion, garlic, and bell pepper to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in orzo pasta, chicken broth, diced tomatoes, oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using). Bring to a simmer.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Transfer skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until orzo is cooked and liquid is absorbed.
- Remove from oven and stir in Parmesan cheese and spinach. Let stand for a few minutes until spinach wilts.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- Use any type of sausage you prefer.
- Vegetables can be substituted based on your preferences.
- For a creamier dish, stir in a tablespoon of cream cheese or heavy cream after baking.
