Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Royal icing
- Green food coloring
- Brown food coloring
- White sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Divide dough in half. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out football shapes using a cookie cutter.
- Place cookies on ungreased baking sheets.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
- Let cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Prepare royal icing according to package directions. Divide icing into three bowls. Tint one bowl green, one brown, and leave one white.
- Decorate the football cookies with green icing as the field, brown icing for the football, and white sprinkles for the yard lines.
- Let the icing set completely before serving.
Notes
- For best results, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before rolling.
