Description
A timeless and flavorful stuffing recipe perfect for your Thanksgiving feast. This classic dish is easy to prepare and a crowd-pleaser.
Ingredients
- 8 cups cubed day-old bread (such as French bread or challah)
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups chopped yellow onion
- 1.5 cups chopped celery
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried sage
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Spread the bread cubes on a baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until lightly toasted.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and celery and cook until softened, about 8-10 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic, sage, thyme, pepper, and salt. Cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- In a large bowl, combine the toasted bread cubes and the onion-celery mixture.
- Pour the chicken or vegetable broth over the bread mixture and toss gently to combine. Let it sit for 5 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.
- Stir in the beaten eggs until just combined.
- Transfer the stuffing mixture to the prepared baking dish.
- Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and slightly crisp.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use homemade bread.
- You can add cooked sausage, cranberries, or nuts for variations.
- Ensure the bread is truly stale for the best texture.
