A comforting and satisfying Cheesy Beef & Potato Bake perfect for family dinners.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
- 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and sliced
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brown ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain excess fat.
- Add onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in oregano, salt, pepper, crushed tomatoes, and tomato sauce. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes.
- In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, layer half of the potato slices.
- Pour half of the beef mixture over the potatoes.
- Repeat layers with remaining potatoes and beef mixture.
- Top with cheddar and mozzarella cheeses.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until potatoes are tender and cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Adjust seasonings to your preference.
- Add other vegetables such as bell peppers or mushrooms to the beef mixture.
- Use different types of cheese for a unique flavor.
- For a creamier dish, stir in 1/2 cup of sour cream into the beef mixture before layering.
