Easy cakey chocolate sheet pan cake recipe. Perfect for beginner bakers.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 13×18 inch sheet pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Beat until well combined.
- Gradually add boiling water to the batter, mixing until smooth. The batter will be thin.
- Pour batter into the prepared sheet pan.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let cool completely before frosting.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
- Add chocolate chips to the batter for extra chocolate.
- Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting.
