Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 13×18 inch sheet pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Beat until well combined.
  4. Gradually add boiling water to the batter, mixing until smooth. The batter will be thin.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared sheet pan.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let cool completely before frosting.
