This Amish Hamburger Steak Bake is a hearty and comforting dish perfect for a family dinner.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 (10.75 oz) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 6 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet, brown ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess grease.
- Add onion and green bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, layer sliced potatoes.
- Pour the ground beef mixture over the potatoes.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour.
- Remove foil and sprinkle with cheddar cheese.
- Bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute cream of celery or cream of chicken soup for cream of mushroom soup.
- Add other vegetables such as carrots or corn for extra flavor and nutrition.
- For a richer flavor, use a combination of cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese.
