Description

This Amish Hamburger Steak Bake is a hearty and comforting dish perfect for a family dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 (10.75 oz) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 6 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess grease.
  3. Add onion and green bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  5. In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, layer sliced potatoes.
  6. Pour the ground beef mixture over the potatoes.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour.
  8. Remove foil and sprinkle with cheddar cheese.
  9. Bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute cream of celery or cream of chicken soup for cream of mushroom soup.
  • Add other vegetables such as carrots or corn for extra flavor and nutrition.
  • For a richer flavor, use a combination of cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese.
