Ingredients

  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup warm water (105-115°F)
  • 1 cup warm milk (105-115°F)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)


Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, melted butter, and salt.
  3. Add the foamy yeast mixture to the milk mixture.
  4. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  5. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 15 minutes.
  7. Punch down dough and divide into 12 equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball.
  8. Place rolls on a greased baking sheet, cover, and let rise for another 10 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  10. Brush tops of rolls with beaten egg.
  11. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  12. Serve warm.
